The under 16 Russian national team have won their first match

The under 16 Russian national team began theor Wolfgang Rud Cup campaign with a large 6:1 victory over hosts Austria. Our players outshot their opponents 72-23.

Vladimir Filatov, Russia under 16 head coach:

- This was the first match ever for our team. The training camp began on the 11th of August, and this was our debut performance. Overall, despite it being a tough first period, this was the first time that my team has outshot the opponents by such a margin. Nevertheless, during the first half, they played in an organised manner and made it difficult for us.

I am grateful to the guys for scoring the goals, and I congratulate them with their national team debuts. I think that they feel good after this match.

- How would you sum up the overall performance?

- The season hasn't yet started, so it's hard to play really top level ice hockey. However, they are listening to us, and are trying to play at their maximum. Some aren't even fifteen years old yet, but they treat the sport like real professionals. 

Russia's next match will take place on the 20th of August against Slovakia.
