Vladislav Tretiak visited Danis Zaripov's testimonial

10.08.2023
In Kazan, Tatarstan, Danis Zaripov's testimonial match took place.

The vastly experienced 42-year-old forward has indeed decided to complete his hugely successful playing career. His last club was KHL side Ak Bars Kazan.

The president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Vladislav Tretiak, who was in attendance at the Tatneft Arena, had this to say:

- Danis is a true legend of Russian ice hockey! His record of five Gagarin Cups will take some beating. Furthermore, across 11 years with the Russian national team, he scored plenty of vital goals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. He became a world champion on three occasions and contributed greatly to the team's success. For example, he tallied a vital marker in the semi-final of the 2008 World Championship against Finland to make it 2:0 in our favour, before subsequently hitting the jackpot against the same team in the final of the 2014 tournament to put Russia ahead 4:2. I will never forget those two goals! The Russian ice hockey society will always be hugely grateful to Danis for his fantastic efforts on the international stage.
