In a topsy-turvy, end-to-end encounter, the Russian national team outlasted Avangard Omsk at the 2023 Liga Stavok Sochi Hockey Open, earning a dramatic 4:3 penalty shootout triumph.

Russia moved ahead three times during regulation, with Dmitry Buchelnikov, Semyon Demidov and Maxim Velikov all hitting the target. Avangard did indeed reply on each occasion with Valentin Pyanov and Denis Vengryzhanovsky netting but, in the ensuing shootout, Ilya Chefanov took a leading role for our team.

Tomorrow, at 19:30 Moscow time, Russia will compete against SKA Saint Petersburg in the concluding game of the tournament.
