Pavel Kanarsky summarises the U16 Sirius Cup

14.06.2023
Following the concluding match of the Sirius Cup in Sochi, head coach of the under 16 Russian national team Pavel Kanarsky spoke about his impressions from the competition:

Russia U16 head coach Pavel Kanarsky:

- It was a good game and a great tournament. Due to the fact that all of the other teams wanted to display their best ice hockey against the Russian national team, our guys had to show their character and ability to deal with such a situation. Taking into account that we don't have any international tournaments at the moment, these competitions are required for our players to prove their worth at this level.

This was one of the best matches of the tournament. Both teams displayed ice hockey of a high quality, but we wasted plenty of clear opportunities to score goals. We out-shot the opponents 20-7 in the second stanza, hitting the pipe and creating lots of counter-attacks. The loss to Moscow at this competition has left a bitter taste in the mouth. Overall, there were players who exceeded expectations, and those who didn't match up to what we had expected to see. Our job right now is to build the core of this team.
