Alexander Ovechkin and Sergei Bobrovsky speak after playing Canada
Alexander Ovechkin, Russian national team captain:
- It's a shame that we couldn't finish off the job. We have a fantastic team and even when the score was 2:4, we didn't panic and had belief that we could turn the game around. We needed one goal to get back into things.
- The team was poor on the powerplay during the World Cup.
- This is our fault, we were on the ice and take the blame. Nevertheless, we have great players and coaches. No one can say that someone didn't give their all. Sergei Bobrovsky gave us a chance every match, we needed to help him out. We were a bit unlucky.
Sergei Bobrovsky, Russian national team goaltender:
- All of the guys fought hard. I think that all of the fans saw this for themselves. How tough was it today? Every player has their job.
- What positives can Russia take away from this tournament?
- We were a united group. We beat the under 23 North American team and Finland. Overall, I think that we did well at this competition. Evgeny Malkin and Alexander Ovechkin were a big part of this team, they led from example both on and off the ice.
- Did the KHL players adapt to the smaller ice?
- I think that they did a good job. Ivan Telegin was really committed and scored, while Evgeny Dadonov and Vadim Shipachyov were great too.
