14.04.2018
The national team's management group have called up players who have finished their KHL and NHL seasons for World Championship preparation.
They are defensemen Anton Belov, Vladislav Gavrikov, Dinar Khafizullin, Artyom Zub (all SKA) and forwards Nikita Gusev, Pavel Datsyuk, Ilya Kablukov, Alexander Barabanov, Sergei Plotnikov, Viktor Tikhonov (all SKA), Nikita Soshnikov, Ivan Barbashyov (both St Louis), Anton Slepyshev (Edmonton), Evgeny Dadonov (Florida Panthers), Pavel Buchnevich (New York Rangers). These players will arrive in Novogorsk on Monday, April 16. They will compete in the Czech Hockey Games, the Euro Hockey Tour's third stage. The matches will take place on April 19 (Russia versus Sweden in Yaroslavl) and on April 21 and 22 against Finland and the Czech Republic in Pardubice.
Alongside the previously mentioned players, Alexander Radulov (Dallas) and Vladislav Namestnikov (New York Rangers) have also been called up. At the moment, they are undergoing medical tests which will determine their participation in World Championship preparations.
A number of experienced players who competed at the 2018 Olympic Games aren't in the squad. This decision was made as to test younger players at the third stage of the Euro Hockey Tour who have less national team experience.
