World Junior Championship. Denmark U20 - Russia U20
On the 2nd of January, the under 20 Russian national team will take on Denmark in the 2017 World Junior Championship quarter-finals.
Last year, these two teams met at the same stage in what proved to be an unforgettable match. Denmark led twice against Russia, were hanging on with only 44 seconds to go, but Russian captain Vladislav Kamenev broke Danish hearts with a late equaliser. He then scored the overtime winner, a goal which spurred Russia on to eventually take silver medals in the competition.
Nevertheless, if Denmark were major underdogs last year, they are the higher seeds this time around. In a superb group stage campaign, Denmark beat both the Czech Republic and reigning champions Finland, results which allowed them to finish second in their pool behind Sweden. Their main danger men are Joachim Blichfield and Nikolaj Krag, forwards who both boast four points.
Interestingly, Russia played Denmark in a pre-tournament friendly match, earning a tough 2:1 overtime victory.
The Denmark U20 - Russia U20 match will begin at 21:00 Moscow time in Toronto, Canada. Match TV will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
