Oleg Bratash: "We were ready for Latvia's fast start"

01.04.2017

Russian Olympic national team head coach Oleg Bratash:

- It was a good game. The opponents begun the match on the front foot. We were prepared for that, but we had to make some adjustments to our game during the first period. After that, we started attacking better and our ruthlessness with our chances allowed us to gain a comfortable advantage. 5:0 up, the guys slowed the game down in the third frame, however I am pleased with today's performance.

Russian Olympic national team forward Sergei Shumakov:

- Despite winning by a large score, I think that it was a tense game. Both teams fought hard. For some of us it was tough because we haven't played a game for a long time. Because of that, we failed to use all of our opportunities. We could have scored more. We relaxed in the third period when 5:0 up. I didn't know that Andrei Kareev played his first ever match for Russia, he did really well. He saved us.

- Will it be more difficult tomorrow against Latvia?

- Yes, the second match is always harder. Especially when you win the first with a big score. We'll be prepared.
