2022 Olympic Games. Final. Finland - ROC
19.02.2022
The ROC men's ice hockey team will compete against Finland in the final of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
On Friday, our team just managed to defeat Sweden in a thriller, emerging victorious by a score of 2:1 following a tense penalty shootout. 20-year-old forward Arseniy Gritsyuk ended the shootout in ROC's favour after Anton Slepyshev had initially opened the scoring during the second period.
Our players qualified for the semi-finals of the competition with a nervy 3:1 victory against Denmark, as Vadim Shipachyov, Nikita Nesterov and Vyacheslav Voynov hit the target. In the group stage, ROC had only conceded the one loss to the Czech Republic (5:6) in overtime after earning slender wins against Switzerland (1:0) and the Danes (2:0). A haul of seven points was enough to finish in top spot of Group B and qualify automatically for the quarter-finals.
The strong Finns have been perfect at the tournament so far, starting out by winning Group C with eight points after beating Slovakia (6:2), Latvia (3:1) and the Swedes (4:3 OT). In the quarter-finals, Finland emphatically cruised past the Swiss 5:1, before they subsequently got the better of the Slovaks 2:0 in the semis.
Puck-drop is scheduled for 07:10 Moscow time. Channel One will provide a live broadcast in Russia, and you can follow text updates on our official Twitter account.
