In the opening match of the 2021 Sochi Hockey Open, the Russian Olympic national team came up short against Avangard Omsk, conceding a 1:5 defeat.

Nikita Chibrikov scored the only goal for our team in the seventh minute of play.

The score was indeed locked level at 1:1 until the early stages of the third period, before Avangard subsequently tallied four unanswered goals - with one of them being an empty-netter - to emerge victorious.

Russia will now prepare to face Traktor Chelyabinsk tomorrow at 15:00 Moscow time.
