The 2021/2022 season is the 75th for domestic ice hockey

03.08.2021
The 2021/2022 campaign, in which we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of our favourite sport in Russia, will soon begin.

The history of domestic ice hockey began on 22 December 1946, with 12 teams having played in their maiden matches of the national championship on that particular day in Moscow, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Riga and Kaunas.

Over the course of 75 years, ice hockey has been an integral part of our life, with Russia competing as one of the world superpowers. Our national teams have won the Olympic Games on nine occasions and have become world champions 27 times.

The 2021/2022 season will indeed be the 75th anniversary of Russian ice hockey. The Russian Ice Hockey Federation's (RIHF) plans are aimed at popularising the sport, preserving its great history and uniting all regions of the country from amateurs to professionals.

In anticipation of the anniversary season, the RIHF has presented a special logo. It combines the main symbols of the RIHF: a double-headed eagle, a shield in the colours of the Russian flag with a silhouette of an ice hockey player wiith the numbers 75, 1946 and 2021 on the ribbon. The colours of the logo for the upcoming season are red, white, blue and gold.

The anniversary logo will appear on the ice and the boards of the rinks, and will also become the main symbol of the anniversary events. It will also be sewn on the jerseys of the Russian national teams for the 2021/2022 season.

December 2021 was declared the month of national ice hockey. On the first day of winter, the Day of Russian Ice Hockey is traditionally celebrated. In mid-December, the pre-New Year home tournament of the Russian national team - the Channel One Cup - will take place. And, on December 22, an ice hockey relay race called "Match Through the Country" will take place. It will take place in 11 different Russian time zones stretching from Kamchatka to the Kaliningrad.

The RIHF will put together several surprises for fans in accordance with the celebration!
