01.05.2021
In the fourth and concluding group-stage match of the 2021 IIHF World U18 Championship in the USA, the under 18 Russian national team will face the Czech Republic.
So far, the Czechs have only managed to pick up one win in Group B, beating Germany 3:1 while conceding defeats to Finland (5:6) and the USA (1:2 SO). Russia, on the other hand, have tallied two victories in three matches, defeating the US (7:6 OT) and Germany (6:1). The only loss so far was a narrow 3:4 setback to the Finns in a penalty shootout (3:4 SO).
Both of these teams are guaranteed to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
"Matvei Michkov? He is improving with every passing game, I congratulated him with his four goals," stated Russian head coach Albert Leshchyov after beating the Germans. "Nevertheless, his success is also down to the efforts of his teammates, they are giving him great looks at the net. We will now look back at our performance in preparation for the Czech Republic."
Puck-drop is scheduled for 00:00 Moscow time. Match TV will provide a live television broadcast in Russia.
