In a friendly match ahead of the upcomig 2021 IIHF World U18 Championship, the under 18 Russian national team completed a spirited comeback against their Belarusian counterparts, earning a 3:2 victory in a penalty shootout.

Belarus boasted a two-goal advantage after 21 minutes. Nevertheless, 16-year-old forward Matvei Michkov got Russia on the board midway through the second stanza, before SKA Saint Petersburg teammate Nikita Chibrikov equalised in the third minute of the third frame.

Matvei Petrov and Dmitry Katelevsky subsequently secured the win for our team in the ensuing shootout, with goalkeeper Sergei Ivanov stopping all shots which he faced.

Russia will begin their World Championship campaign against the USA at 04:00 Moscow time on April 27.
