The new RIHF video review room has been presented

24.04.2021
On April 23, at the offices of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF), a presentation of the renovated video review room at the RIHF's refereeing office took place.

Specialists in the refereeing office make decisions whether a goal was legitimate by studying the video replay.

A large video stand consisting of 15 monitors is in the office, consequently ensuring that no potentially decisive details are missed when studying the footage. As a consequence of the renovation, there are now twice the amount of video monitors in the office, and the specialists can analyse a close call on an enlarged screen while having access to smaller monitors at the same time.

New software has also been installed to allow for more than 10 games to be shown at once without delay in real time. The updates were tested during the 2020/2021 KHL regular season, and they were formally put in place for the ensuing Gagarin Cup playoffs.

Mikhail Karpushin, head of the RIHF refereeing department:

- The process of refereeing has remained the same. More importantly, we have improved the level of the equipment and increased the size of the video wall, and we now have twice as many screens at hand. We can view moments in games in more detail, enlarging the picture on the screen and selecting for more matches to be viewed. We tested the system during the regular seasons of the KHL and VHL. There is not one other better equipped refereeing office in Europe, and we are practically on a par with the NHL.

Alexei Anisimov, vice-president of the KHL:

- The aim of the project was to construct a large panel of monitors, which have excellent picture quality and are not lagging behind in real time. The main feature of the new technology is that we can either have just one image on the entire panel, or we can divide the footage out between different matches.
