On April 15, at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, an awards ceremony took place for the winners of the U14, U15 and U16 federal championships.
The Central Federal District won the under 16 tournament, while teams representing Saint Petersburg won the under 14 and 15 competitions. This is the first time when teams from Saint Petersburg have won both the U14 and U15 tournaments in one campaign.
Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) first vice-president and national team general manager Roman Rotenberg, RIHF executive director Dmitry Kurbatov, president of the Saint Petersburg Ice Hockey Federation Valeri Larkin, SKA Saint Petersburg general director Andrei Tochitsky and the deputy chairman of the city committee concerning physical culture and sport Elena Pavlova all attended the ceremony. Local well-known ice hockey players Konstantin Menshikov, Andrei Andreev, Boris Bokov, Alexei Gusarov, Valeri Pokrovsky and Alexander Yudin also congratulated the young players with their success.
The players received commemorative certificates and souvenirs from the RIHF.
RIHF first vice-president, national team general manager Roman Rotenberg:
- For the first time in the city's history, two teams from Saint Petersburg won the federal championship during one season. This is a major achievement! First of all, I would like to thank the players' parents and coaches for their efforts, I know how much effort is required to create championship-winning teams. We are doing everything possible to ensure that children in Russia can play ice hockey in excellent facilities in accordance with modern techniques, under the guidance of qualified coaches. We can already see the results of the Red Machine National Development Program. As someone from Saint Petersburg, I am very happy for these teams. This achievement will remain in the city's history.
