2020 Connecting Generations match. Reds - Whites - 15:11

14.12.2020
In Moscow Region, the 2020 Connecting Generations match took place with the Reds defeating the Whites 15:11.

The main idea of the game is to support the traditions of Russian ice hockey, with both Soviet and current-day stars participating in it. Legendary players such as Vyacheslav Fetisov, Alexander Yakushev and Pavel Pure competed in the match, alongside players of the current senior national team and representatives of Russian sport, politics and culture.

It was organised by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) and Nornickel with the Night Hockey League supporting the event.

RIHF president Vladislav Tretiak:

- On behalf of the RIHF, I would like to say a big thank you to Vladimir Potanin who really does love ice hockey and helps us greatly. Such people who love our country and our sport keep us going during such times. All of us really enjoyed ourselves today! It was interesting watching those players who used to play with me compete on the ice again. Yes, maybe their pace isn't the same anymore, but that is not important. They serve as wonderful examples to the younger guys who will soon participate at the Channel One Cup.

General manager and first RIHF vice-president Roman Rotenberg:

- It's a huge honour for me to be on the same ice as my childhood idols. The same can be said for the young players who had only previously seen highlights of their games. Today, Olympic champions, world champions and winners of both the Gagarin and Stanley Cups were on the ice, something which I think hadn't happened in the past. This will give our team more motivation ahead of the upcoming Channel One Cup. We're grateful to Nornickel, Vladimir Potanin and all of the participants!

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Night Hockey League and president of Nornickel Vladimir Potanin:

- I am really happy that the traditional Connecting Generations match took place despite the difficult circumstances. It was an important event for veterans, current players and everyone who supports sport. This shows that our ice hockey is alive and kicking by connecting all generations. We will always fight for this tradition!
