03.11.2020
The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) presented a project concerning the creation of a new domestic league for players between the ages of 15 and 17 on November 3.

It was unveiled during a video conference with representatives of the RIHF, the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and clubs of the KHL and the Supreme Hockey League (VHL).

A competition named the Russian Hockey League (RHL) has been suggested. The aim behind the creation of this tournament is to prevent Russian players from moving abroad, a task given by the Ministry of Sport.

The main aim of the RHL is to organise a competition for the strongest junior teams in Russia. During the conference, the Ministry of Sport and the KHL expressed their desire for this tournament to be created. Proposals were received from clubs, while the RIHF spoke about the organising of the tournament and the technical aspects.

The idea of creating the RHL was supported. The RIHF will submit a plan in order to launch the competition from the 2021/2022 ice hockey season.
