Vladimir Filatov: "Three goals isn't enough"
21.04.2019
Russian national team head coach Vladimir Filatov and forward Rodion Amirov shared their opinions after the 2019 IIHF World Championship defeat to the USA in Sweden (3:6).
Russian national team head coach Vladimir Filatov:
- We expected the Americans to play this way, but we couldn't take advantage of their weaknesses. Three goals against this opponent isn't enough. When the score was 3;4, we had the chance to change the match in the final moments, but we only had six defensemen and they were all tired. Unfortunately, the tournament is over for Nikita Sedov, he received a bad injury against Latvia. It's better for this defeat to happen now rather than in the knockout phase.
Russian national team forward Rodion Amirov:
- It was a fast-paced game, and the Americans have a strong team. We were lacking something and we now have to correct our mistakes. The fifth goal? They caught us out when we were changing shifts. This is a disappointing defeat, but we won't give up. For my goal, Vasily Podkolzin spotted me on the slot, and I simply had to tip the puck in. Sweden have a technical team which beat us at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, but this is a match for second place in the group and we will play to win.
