2018 World Championship. Austria - Russia - 0:7
06.05.2018
In the second 2018 World Championship match, the senior Russian national team defeated Austria 7:0 in Denmark.
Following the large victory against France, interim head coach Ilya Vorobyov didn't make any changes to the line-up, keeping the team the same. It didn't take long for Russia to get going either, as Mikhail Grigorenko's firm wrist shot from distance caught the Austrian goaltender cold. Artyom Anisimov bundled a loose puck over the line, before Alexander Barabanov sent a stinging drive in on the doorstep to make it 3:0 after 20 minutes.
In the mood for more, Russia continued on the front foot in the second. Mikhail Grigorenko registered his second of the match early on, brilliantly fooling the goalkeeper with a clever move and backhanding in. Kirill Kaprizov then lashed a stunning Pavel Datsyuk pass into the net at point blank range, extending the Russian lead to five. Maxim Mamin topped off the frame with his first goal of the competition, scoring when clean through.
Goalkeeper Igor Shestyorkin replaced Vasily Koshechkin for the third period, in turn making his senior World Championship debut.
Ilya Mikheev got on the scoreboard with a wonderful solo effort, sealing a 7:0 Russian victory! The team will next take to the ice tomorrow at 17:15 Moscow time against Belarus.
