Reaction following the Ivan Hlinka memorial tournament win against Canada
Russia U18 head coach Alexander Zybin:
- We took our time getting into the match, but the guys did a good job. After analysing the first conceded goal in the break, the players started following the game plan. I haven't seen what happened to Danila Galenyuk, but we'll watch that back on video. I don't know if he will participate further in the competition. It was an interesting match for the fans today, both teams attacked hard. We did well during regulation and hung on for penalty shots. When we won in the shootout, the referees looked at the video review to confirm that the final Canadian shot didn't cross the line.
Russia U18 goalkeeper Amir Miftakhov:
- I was focused on the game from start to finish. I was nervous when Canada had a penalty shot in overtime, but I tried not to think too hard. In the shootout, Canada asked for a review after they thought it was a goal. Nevertheless, I knew that the puck was under me and the video confirmed that I was right. It was a tense match, but we have emotions left for the next matches which we have to win. Slovakia are playing at home, I think that a lot of fans will come to that game.
Russia U18 forward Dmitry Zavgorodniy:
- It's great to beat Canada and score two goals. All of the guys did a good job, but luck was on my side with the goals. There was confusion in the shootout after the Canadians thought that they had scored, but Amir was sure that the puck was stuck under his pad. It was a nervy match, however our goalkeeper made a lot of important saves. We were a united group on the ice. We won't underestimate the Slovaks in tomorrow's match.
