The U18 women's youth team will play against Canada in the WJC semi-final
It's semi-final day at the women's 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Saint Catharines, Canada, and the Russian girls will take on the host nation.
Along with the USA Canada are one of the dominant forces in women's hockey, and apart from a 1:4 defeat to the Americans in the group stages they have rarely been troubled. After progressing out of Group A they were gifted an automatic semi-final berth, and will be fresh coming into this one. Nevertheless Russia won't be willing to give in easily, and have burst into life at the tournament. Big 3:2 and 3:0 wins over the Czech Republic and Finland respectively have fired our team into the semi-finals, and captain Fanuza Kadirova has been excellent taking five points from four games (4+1).
These two teams did meet in the group stages, with Alexander Ulyankin's troops losing to the Canadians 2:5.
The Canada - Russia match will begin at 03:30 Moscow time inside the Meridian Centre, Saint Catharines, Canada. The Canadian Ice Hockey Federation's website will have a live broadcast.
