World Championship. Russia - Switzerland
Today on the 14th of May, the Russian national team will play their fifth match of the 2016 IIHF World Championship against Switzerland.
This will become the 15th time that these two teams have played each other, and so far, the Swiss have grabbed only two wins – in 1998 in Basel, and in 2000 in Saint Petersburg. The most recent meeting was in 2015, when Oleg Znarok’s men took a thumping 5:0 win in Belarus. Nevertheless, despite that record, Switzerland are never an easy team to take on, and with seven points from four matches, they currently occupy fourth place in group A. The player to look out for will be Minnesota Wild forward Nino Niederreiter, who already has five points (3+2).
Russia have been revving up in this competition, and followed up two wins against Kazakhstan and Latvia with a stunning 10:1 trouncing of Denmark on Thursday. Artemiy Panarin’s line took an incredible 10 points in that match.
