World Championship quarter-final. Russia - Germany
Today on the 19th of May, the Russian national team will take on Germany in the 2016 World Championship quarter-final.
Our first knockout game will be against the Germans, and they impressed in the tournament group stages. Despite being pitted with big names such as Canada, the USA and Finland, they held their own to take third place. Their stand out victory came against the Americans, as they defied the odds to take a 3:2 victory. Goaltender Thomas Greiss has bolstered their ranks since arriving from the New York Islanders, and 20 year old Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl is their danger man up front.
Russia impressed during the group stages, and made it six wins in a row with a 4:1 thrashing of Sweden. Vadim Shipachyov is currently the competition's overall top scorer with 13 points (3+10).
These two teams have met in 13 previous World Championships, with our team winning on 12 of those occasions. The goal difference is 46:13 in our favour.
