World Championship semi-final. Finland - Russia
Today on the 21st of May, the Russian national team will compete against Finland in the 2016 World Championship semi-final.
Finland have been the standout team at this tournament so far, and are yet to drop a game. They steamrollered their opponents in Group B, including an impressive 4:0 win over Canada, and confidently defeated Denmark in the quarter-final 5:1. SKA Saint Petersburg goaltender Mikko Koskinen has a 93.46% saves percentage to his name, and forwards Mikko Koivu, Mikael Granlund and Patrik Laine have a combined 31 points.
Our team have grown into the competition, and have now won seven matches in a row. Nevertheless, we had a tough test against the Germans in the previous round, and recovered from an early setback to emerge victorious 4:1. Vadim Shipachyov is the World Championship's top scorer with 16 points (5+11).
In two warm up Moscow Euro Hockey Tour fixtures, Finland beat Russia 3:1 and 3:2 respectively.
