Reaction after the first Future Cup game
07.11.2024
The two respective head coaches had their say following the Future Cup match between Russia U20 and U18.
Russia U20 head coach Nikolai Voevodin:
"We started well. However, after we had failed to use our scoring chances, the opponents improved and we started to move away from the ice hockey which we're capable of showing. We need to fix the mistakes which we committed today in time for tomorrow's game against the Kazakhs. To be honest, I'm not satisfied with this match, we should have won more convincingly considering that our players are older.
"We'll make changes for tomorrow's game, because some players in our line-up today faded. On the other hand, however, I liked how we played for Nikita Surayev's winning goal."
Russia U18 head coach Dmitry Mikhailov:
"We played against a mobile, technical side which is older than us. This game will serve as a good lesson for our guys. Of course we wanted to win, but we have to accept this result. Pyotr Andreyanov? Yes, there was a mistake for the first U20 goal, but he subsequently played with composure and kept us in with a chance."
