66th anniversary of Sergei Gimaev's birthday

1 January 2021 marks the 66th anniversary of the birthday of Sergei Gimaev, who was a successful ice hockey player and commentator.

After beginning to play ice hockey at the age of 11, Sergei subsequently became a professional player, notably winning the USSR championship and the USSR Cup on a number of occasions.

Following the completion of his playing career, he later turned his hand to commentating, working with the Russia 1, Russia 2, Sport 1, Match TV and KHL TV television channels.

Sergei passed away on 18 March 2017 after suffering a heart attack during a veterans match in Tula. He was laid to rest in Khimki.
