At the 2019 Sochi Hockey Open, the Russian Olympic team conceded their first defeat, going down 1:2 in overtime to the competition hosts.

In the second period, Artyom Tomilin opened the scoring, before Kirill Marchenko equalised with 15 minutes remaining in the game. However, in overtime, the same HC Sochi player grabbed his second and sealed the 2:1 win for the home team.
