In the third match of the 2019 IIHF World Championship, the senior Russian national team continued their promising start to the competition, claiming a confident 3:0 win over the Czech Republic.

After a tentative beginning to proceedings, Sergei Andronov opened the scoring in the 14th minute, smashing a low effort under the opposing goalkeeper. In the second frame, Nikita Gusev then made it two, backhanding into the net when clean through after receiving a cunning pass from Nikita Kucherov.

The Czechs applied heavy pressure in the third perood, but largely thanks to expert goalkeeping from Andrei Vasilevskiy, Russia held on with Nikita Zaitsev hitting the empty net in the final moments.

Russia will now prepare to face Italy on May 15 at 21.15 Moscow time.
