The RIHF extends its condolences

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) expresses its deepest condolences to Alexander Ovechkin and his family in connection with the premature death of the athlete's father.
Mikhail Ovechkin has sadly died due to illness at the age of 71.
President of the RIHF Vladislav Tretiak:
- On behalf of the RIHF and myself personally, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the entire Ovechkin family. Mikhail was a wonderful person, always sincere, kind, open and hard-working. The fact that his son Alexander has become so successful is down to Mikhail's brilliant father skills. Even when he has been carrying injuries, Alexander has never turned down the opportunity to represent Russia on the international scene. This is down to how he was brought up. Mikhail was loved and respected by everyone, and his death is a huge loss for us all.
