World Junior Championship. Latvia U20 - Russia U20
The under 20 Russian national team will take on Latvia in the second 2017 World Junior Championship group stage match.
Having only just returned to the elite division, Latvia aren't recognised as one of the tournament's favourites. Indeed they had a horrible experience in the first game of this competition, getting thumped by the USA 1:6. Nevertheless, the vast majority of their players do complete in the North American leagues. Defenseman Kristaps Zile, who plays for HC Dinamo Riga in the KHL, will be a familar figure for Russian ice hockey fans.
Unfortunately, our team also suffered a disappointing opening day loss. The players were edged out by Canada 3:5 in an exciting encounter, with Mikhail Sergachyov, Kirill Kaprizov and Yegor Rykov all finding the net. After that match, head coach Valery Bragin spoke about the need to erase silly mistakes.
The Latvia - Russia match will begin at 00:00 Moscow time in Toronto, Canada. Match TV will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
