2021 World Championship. Russia - Sweden. A statistical look

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation takes a look at the statistics to emerge from the 2021 IIHF World Championship match between Russia and Sweden (3:2 SO):

- In 150 matches between the two nations, Russia have earned 79 victories, Sweden have tallied 66 wins and five games ended in a draw. The goal difference is 413-383 in the Russians' favour;

- This is the first time when Russia have beaten one particular opponent in a penalty shootout on four occasions during one single campaign;

- Alexander Samonov is only the third Russian goalkeeper to earn three shootout victories in one season, following in the footsteps of Maxim Sokolov (2001/2002) and Yegor Podomatskiy (2001/2002);

- This was the maiden occasion when forward Vladimir Tarasenko scored a winning penalty shot for the senior Russian national team;

- Forward Mikhail Grigorenko has picked up 42 (22+20) points in 50 appearances for the senior national team;

- Fellow forward Ivan Morozov has scored one goal and dished out five assists in 15 games with Russia;

- Defenseman Dmitry Orlov (3+9) has participated in 25 World Championship matches.
