Interviews after beating Canada at the 2019 Winter Universiade

08.03.2019
Russian women's student national team head coach Alexei Chistyakov, defender Anna Shibanova and forward Valeria Pavlova shared their opinons after defeating Canada 4:2 at the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

Russian women's student national team head coach Alexei Chistyakov:

- We can call this match a practice run before the final, the Canadians are the Canadians. We achieved the required result, but despite that, there are things which require improvement. We always have extra motivation when taking on Canada. In the semi-final, we will play the USA, and there are no weak teams at this competition. Yes, we won the previous match 10:0 against them, but it doesn't mean anything now. We have to use our confidence in the right manner and win.

Russian women's student national team defender Anna Shibanova:

- We knew that it would be tough, but we were only thinking about winning today. Canada always play fast, aggressive ice hockey, and they don't give you any space. We think we'll play them in the final, so we had double the amount of motivation.

Russian women's student national team forward Valeria Pavlova:

- For us, it was very important to qualify for the semi-finals in first place of our group. We won and made the fans inside the stadium happy. To be honest, we do think that we will play Canada in the final, however we now need to focus on the semi-final game. The Americans have a mobile team which skates with pace. We have to show our capabilities.
