26.04.2018
In Chelyabinsk, the under 18 Russian national team fell 1:5 to the USA in the 2018 U18 World Championship quarter-final.

The Americans struck first in the opening period through Cole Caudfield's deflection pass which went directly through goalkeeper Amir Miftakhov, but Russia's Ruslan Iskhakov equalised early in the second when clean through.

In such a tight game, the next goal was always going to be crucial, but it was the USA who scored it. Shorthanded, Joel Farabee beat Amir Miftakhov with eight minutes remaining, putting Russia on the back foot. Oliver Wahlstrom doubled their lead, before Jacob Wise and Jack Hughes grabbed empty net goals for themselves to make the score 5:1 in their favour.
