Student Russian teams will compete at the Universiade

Russian student teams - both men's and women's - have been cleared to participate in the ice hockey tournaments which are scheduled to be staged at the 2027 Winter Universiade.

This will mark the first major international competition for our teams since the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

The 33rd Winter Universiade will take place between the 15th and 27th of January 2027 in the Chinese city of Changchun, Jilin Province.

Earlier this year, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) expanded opportunities for Russian athletes to participate in international student competitions. This includes the opportunity to compete under a neutral status in sports where international federations still maintain restrictions against Russian athletes.

The men's and women's teams will compete under the "Student Neutral Athletes from the Russian Federation" designation.

The FISU will release the draw and schedule for the ice hockey tournaments in late August.

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation extends its gratitude to the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the Russian Student Sports Union for their significant contribution to the return of Russian student athletes to the international stage.
