Vladislav Tretiak's stick reached the top of Lenin Peak!

31.07.2024
This year, Russian ice hockey celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Super Series between the USSR and Canada.

50 years ago, our team won an unconditional victory against the best ice hockey players representing North America: out of 8 Super Series games, the Soviet team won four, three ended in a draw and the Canadians were able to win only once.

One of the events in memory of the 1974 Super Series was a joint project of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the Mountaineering Federation. Professional climbers conquered one of the highest mountains in the Soviet Union - Lenin Peak in the Pamir mountain range. The goalkeeping stick of the best ice hockey player of the 20th century - three-time Olympic champion, 10-time world champion Vladislav Tretiak - made the journey to the top alongside the climbers. It was he who defended the goal of the USSR national side during the 1974 Super Series.

In addition, the ascent to Lenin Peak was "accomplished" by another unique artifact - the stick of one of the best Canadian forwards of all time, Bobby Hull, who was one of the leaders of the Canadian national team when the Super Series took place. The stick is particularly special because Hull played all four matches of the Moscow stage of the Super Series with it. And, despite the abundance of scoring chances which he was presented with, he never scored against Tretiak!
