In Vladivostok, president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) Vladislav Tretiak opened the 2023 Student Hockey Asia Challenge.
Teams representing the Far Eastern Federal University and the Far Eastern Academy of Physical Culture will compete in the tournament, alongside two sides from the Qiqihar Centre of Winter Sports. A round-robin format will be used.
The Student Hockey Asia Challenge has been organised with the support of the Administration of Primorsky Krai, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, the Russian Student Sporting Union and the Far Eastern Federal University. Live broadcasts are available on the Student Hockey League's official VKontakte page.
President of the RIHF Vladislav Tretiak:
- On behalf of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, I would like to welcome the teams participating at this tournament, especially the two organisations from China. We are multiple Olympic and world champions, Russia is a sporting superpower and we love promoting ice hockey. We want more children to get involved with our favourite sport! I would like to whole heartedly thank the governor of Primorsky Krai Oleg Kozhemyako and the Ministry of Sport of Primorsky Krai for their fantastic support, I know that everyone worked hard to ensure the staging of this competition. In the future, we're hoping for teams from Belarus and Kazakhstan also participate in the tournament.

Governor of Primorsky Krai Oleg Kozhemyako:
- I am sincerely happy to welcome you to our first student ice hockey competition. Thanks to Vladislav Tretiak and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, this is the maiden occasion when we will host such games. We're certainly planning on regularly hosting competitions like this one! During the upcoming winter, teams from three Chinese provinces will participate in a children's tournament here. Our Chinese colleagues are supporting us in the organisation of such competitions. We want to develop ice hockey and strengthen our friendship.
